Relief work for flood victims
Posted by: Admin 2019-08-12 13:39:29

People in Terai were forced to live in a terrible situation created by the torrential monsoon rainfall of 10th of August 2017.The incessant rainfall triggered a massive scale of flooding and landslides in 21 districts in Terai belt, where more than 80% of its agricultural land and approximately 35,000 houses were inundated. 128 people were killed and more than thousand of people were injured by the flood.

In order to respond this massive disaster, Laxmi Pratisthan formed a ‘Flood Response Coordinating Team’ to coordinate all humanitarian efforts effectively. The team was responsible for identifying the actual needs on the ground, mobilizing resources to support flood affected people in coordination with government mechanisms including National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC) under Ministry of Home Affairs, District Disaster Relief Committee (DDRCs), Local Governments and other humanitarian organizations.

Our Response:

As an immediate action, we started distributing relief materials, both food-items and other basic items according to their immediate needs.

On August 17, 2017 our team headed towards Saptari district where we distributed relief materials to 150 families. The relief materials included food items like rice, lentils, salt, oils as well as other basic stuffs like utensils, buckets, tarpaulin, jugs, mats, etc.

On August 22, 2017 we visited another badly affected area, Bijaypur-2, Fatuha in Rautahat district. We distributed relief materials to the 250 most affected families. The relief materials included food items like rice, lentils, salt, oils, basic medicines as well as other basic stuffs like buckets, tarpaulin, jugs, mosquito nets etc.

With support from various generous individuals and institutions, we were able to provide some relief in the wounds of the flood victims. It would never have been possible without your love, support and faith in us. We are indebted to all our helping hands who supported us in this pious campaign.
